Q. Over the past couple of weeks my TD42 Patrol has lost a heap of power. It starts and idles okay but once you put the boot it, she really struggles. I knew it was getting slow, but then I went for a drive with a mate who has a 2.8 GQ and he was laughing at how slow it was! I have replaced the fuel filters and air filter but it hasn’t made any difference. Any idea as to what could be causing it? I’m not sure my wallet will stretch to a rebuild!
A. Well the 2.8 goes pretty well so you might be struggling to stay up with it anyway only if your 4.2 is non-turbo though. You have done the basics with filters. Is it blowing smoke and when it does this what colour? Simple first check is the tiny gauze filter than can sit in the fuel feed pipe that’s bolted to the pump. Remove the banjo bolt and have a look if its there. If so remove and clean it. Call us if you get stuck from there on.
